Episode 1 – Definitions

Plot: Robin and Barney resist their friends’ pressure that they should have “the talk” about their relationship. Meanwhile, a panicky Ted, about to face his first college class, decides he must keep control of his students by releasing his “inner douche”, a tactic that backfires miserably, until…. Ted learns something about the mother.

Episode 2 – Double Date

Plot: Ted goes out with a woman he met on a blind date that turned sour seven years prior. They decide to reevaluate what happened on the previous date to ensure that their second date will be fine. The rest of the gang returns to the Lusty Leopard strip club and see a dancer who looks like one of them.

Episode 3 – Robin 101

Plot: Barney’s long absences make Robin think he is cheating on her. He turns out to be getting pointers from Ted about dating Robin, under a “Robin 101″ course.

Episode 4 – The Sexless Innkeeper

Plot: Marshall and Lily desperately try to have a double date with Barney and Robin. Girls suddenly appear at Ted’s apartment just to find a place to sleep in, making him a “Sexless Innkeeper.”

Episode 5 – Duel Citizenship

Plot: Ted proposes a road trip with Marshall to their favorite pizza parlor in Chicago to reminisce their bachelor days, but Lily wants in on the trip. Barney is seeking US citizenship for Robin, but her Canadian traits still remain.

Episode 6 – Bagpipes

Plot: Marshall’s obsession with his new set of bagpipes drives Lily to lie about a National Bagpiping Convention to gain some peace and quiet. Meanwhile, Ted loves tutoring eager future architects until he realizes they’ve been placing weekly bets on his behavior. Barney and Robin have their first fight, and despite their reluctance, ask Lily and Marshall for advice.

Episode 7 – The Rough Patch

Plot: A major crisis in Barney and Robin’s relationship gives Lily ideas on how to break them up with Alan Thicke’s help.

Episode 8 – The Playbook

Plot: Barney pulls out all of his greatest tricks to reenter the dating scene after he and Robin break up.

Episode 9 – Slapsgiving 2: Revenge of the Slap

Plot: The gang celebrates Thanksgiving this year with Lily’s estranged father (Chris Elliott) whom she hadn’t spoken to in three years. Ted and Robin are given the chance to use Marshall’s fourth Slap Bet slap on Barney.

Episode 10 – The Window

Plot: Maggie (Joanna Garcia) a girl next door that Ted has wanted to date for years has suddenly broken up with her latest boyfriend, giving him and many other guys a chance to score with her.

Episode 11 – Last Cigarette Ever

Plot: After going cold turkey for the longest time, Marshall takes up smoking again, with Lily, Ted, and Barney not far behind.

Episode 12 – Girls Versus Suits

Plot: Ted gets to know Cindy (Rachel Bilson), one of his students who is close to his own age. Barney, meanwhile, tries to pick up women by simply wearing casual clothes.

Episode 13 – Jenkins

Plot: Marshall finds himself in a quandary as Lily refuses to believe that one of his female colleagues kissed him.

Episode 14 – Perfect Week

Plot: Barney aims to achieve the perfect week: seven days, seven women, but a sudden accident changes his way of life. Robin meets someone special from Canada.

Episode 15 – Rabbit or Duck

Plot: Ted abdicates responsibility for finding a Valentine’s Day date, and allows Lily and Marshall to “arrange” a date for him; Robin foolishly consents to attend a Valentine’s day party given by her deeply inappropriate co-worker, Don Frank.
